Sometimes female Pugs have a very foul odor emitting from their vulva.  This can cause them to have a very bad smell. It may be diet related or a low-grade infection. See your vet.

I get many questions about odors on Pugs.  Typically this breed does not need much grooming and does not stink. It is also not uncommon for Pugs to have anal gland problems. One drop from these glands on the coat or legs of your Pugs can cause a horrible, foul odor. Have your vet check your Pugs glands, they may need to be expressed.  This can be a re-occuring problem. See "Anal Sac Impaction" on the side menu bar.

If your Pug is experiencing odors in his/her coat and if you keep him clean then the problem may very well be his diet.  I suggest you gradually change your Pug's diet. Lamb and Rice based dry kibble, all natural without wheat or soy.

If the odor is coming from your Pug's breathe then determine if it smells like garlic. If it does, then he probally has worms. If it is a foul stinky breathe, once again, rule out health issues such as a dental problem or bad gums from your vet and then go on to changing his diet.

I like to keep a bottle of my own home remedy for a sweet smelling Pug.I mix a few tablespoons of baby lotion or more into a bottle of warm water and shake it all up.  Weekly I will rub my Pugs down with this mixture putting it in their coats and rubbing it on the outside of their ears ect... For fawn Pugs who do not have itchy dry skin, a puff of baby powder on their coats is a good 'dry cleaner'.

If  your Pugs odors can not be determined you should also rule out 'internal' problems. Sometimes disease can cause odors.
