As a general rule of thumb for a healthy, average weight Puggy,(8 wks.) 1/4 cup food is sufficient at each of the 4 meals. If they seem to devour it, add a few more morsels or mix in a high quality canned puppy food.

How Often?

This will actually depend on your Puppies desire to eat at meals. Generally speaking:

Up to 4 months a puppy should be given 4 meals daily. Some Pug puppies do not actually eat 4 meals daily. Finicky eaters sometimes only eat 2 meals a day. This is not common and it is desirable for the pup to eat 4 meals a day. However, if you find your puppy sniffing his bowl and leaving it. Take it up after 10 minutes and feed again at the next scheduled feeding.

Between 4-6 months is when you can gradually decrease his feeding schedule down to 3 times daily.

Between 6 months to a year you will decrease his feedings to 1-2 times daily. A Pug usually does not need to eat more than a cup of food a day to keep weight controlled. If this does not seem to be enough for your baby, give low-fat snacks such as baby peeled carrots. Science Diet has a low-fat biscuit out that Pugs generally like. You can get this from your Vet’s office. Stay away from fatty treats, such as Pig ears. My Pugs will spend a few hours chewing on uncooked soup bones (with the meat scraped off).
